Our riding will start at the Gikas Winery, located in the heart of Attica vineyard. Instead of energy drinks we will powered up with some of Gikas wines leading by the breath- taking Retsina from Assyrtiko grape, a wine that redefines this traditional (and hugely misconceived) type of wine, offering world-class quality.
The first “stage” of our wine tour is 18 km long and passes through a wonderful land planted with vines, fig trees and almond trees. After a small break to admire the ancient Temple of Artemis in Vravrona (6th century B.C), we will visit the bioclimatic Papagiannakos Winery in Markopoulo. Vasilis Papagiannakos is one of the greatest spokesmen of Savatiano grape and gives us a great Old Vines example of the variety’s potencial.
Not far from the winery is the beautiful small church of Panagia Varamba (12th century A.D) and in the front of it one of the oldest Savatiano Vineyards in Greece. After this short detour and a 10 km ride, we will end up at the well-known Vassiliou Winery and finish our trip by tasting –among others- his excellent Nemea, a red wine made of Agiorgitiko grape.
